If you are facing significant costs for medical care, or don’t have health insurance, here’s some great news. I want to show you how to save a lot of money on medical costs. I did, and I want to show you exactly how I did it.
A few weeks ago I woke up in the middle of the night in severe pain. I’m a doctor, so I understand the risks of most symptoms pretty well. I knew I needed an ultrasound and some blood tests, and I knew I couldn’t do those tests for myself. So I reluctantly woke up my husband, and we headed to the nearest emergency room.
Thankfully the ultrasound and blood tests were reassuring. After a single dose of medication my pain subsided, and soon I was back home and in bed.
At the time this happened I did not have health insurance – by choice! I’m healthy. Individual health insurance would have been very expensive, and I was willing and able to pay cash for the small medical bills I occasionally incurred.
But when the bills for this emergency room visit came, it was no “small” amount. When they all came in over the next few weeks, they totaled over $5500.
When I totaled these up, I got mad. I wasn’t about to pay over $5500! I knew there were options, and I got to work. Instead of $5500, in the end I paid just over $2100. That’s 64% less! How did I do that?
